The MPA degree is a passport for many interesting and exciting careers in government, the not-for-profit sector and other sectors as well. We have assembled a panel of professionals who will discuss their career paths with what the MPA degree has done for them, as well as career opportunities in t= heir respective organizations and agencies.

While this panel discussion is geared to persons about to graduate with an MPA de= gree or recent MPA graduates, mid-career professionals should find this presenta= tion helpful as well. Open discussion

United Nations (UN) Tour and Receptio= n

DATE: Tuesday, Mar= ch 21, 2006

TIME: 4:30 PM

(NOTE: Please plan= on arriving at the UN Visitor's Center, at First Avenue and 45th Street by 4:00PM to allow time to pass through Security. The tour is limited to 25 people a= nd will be divided into two groups. Both tour groups will start promptly at 4:30PM.)

After the tour (about 5:30PM or 6:00PM), the group will move six blocks south for a Reception at The Corinthian,= 330 East 38th Street, Apt. 25N, Manhattan.

Purchases may be made at the Intern= ational Gift Center, the UN Bookstore, or the UN Postal Service (which has pretty UN stamps that cannot be used in regular mail).

President's Report
            =    We are planning an exciting Spring for all our ASPA Mem= bers. Current plans call for a career day at Baruch College on March 9th and a UN Tou= r and Reception on March 21st. We are also going to co-sponsor a career day= at NYU later in the Spring. Additional plans include a joint event at NYU = with Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer discussing new visions for = Manhattan. Finall= y, we are planning our usual outstanding ASPA Dinner with great guest speak= ers in June. We hope you can participate in our activities.

        &= nbsp;   Donald Klingner, a professor at the University of <= st1:PlaceName w:st=3D"on">Colorado at Colorado Springs, was elected as ASPA Vice President. He will officially accept this position during ASPA’s 67^t=
h National Conference in Denver<= /st1:City>, CO, March 31 – April = 4, 2006.

        &= nbsp;   Byron E. Price (Assistant Professor, Rutgers University, Newark, NJ) was elected as a Nation= al Council Representative for District 1.

        &= nbsp;   Stephen Rolandi is now the Senior National Council Representative for District 1.

        &= nbsp;   Former ASPA President Todd Argow, passed away in November 2005 in Riverside, CA. In addition to his role in National ASPA, Mr. Argow had served as President of three ASPA Chapters.

        &= nbsp;   Barbara J. Cohn Berman, the Vice President of the Fund for the City of New York, is the author of Listening= to the Public: Adding the Voices of the People to Government Performance Measurement and Reporting. The book discusses the collection and use of performance measures that reflect = the needs, concerns, and perspective of the citizen “customers” receiving the service delivery. ASPA’s 67^th National Conference

The most comprehensive public administration conference of the year will be held March 31 through April 4, 2006 in Denver, Colorado. Hundreds of public service experts will be on hand to offer creative solutions to the problems= you face. Over 100 opportunities are available for training, networking, exchanging ideas,= and building partnerships. Practitioners and academics alike will benefit from ASPA’s new Professional Development Workshops. These are practical, “how to” training sessions on issues like Ethics, Human Resourc= es, Leadership, and Performance Measurement. In addition, over 100 Concurrent Sessions are scheduled to address important topics like Homeland Security, Transportation, Privatization, and Internationalism and Global Government. =

Engaging Mobile Workshops in and around Denver will be offered throughout the conference. Denver is home to countless museums, dr= iving and walking tours, the Colorado Rocky Mountains, and holds one of two full-service Mints serving as the largest producer of coins in the world. <= o:p>

The Student Summit will include a collaborati= ve workshop centering on the tools and tactics of a successful job search. Students will learn how to formulate an effective job search strategy and prepare for the interview process (including anticipating questioning style= s), along with helpful tips on negotiating pay, benefits and work conditions. Participants will work in small groups and share ideas to strengthen their resumes, accomplishment statements, cover letters and other correspondence. SECOPA Award Nominations

The South Eastern Conference for Public Administration (SECOPA) is seeking nominations for its Senator Boorsma International Award. The Award is giving out to recognize a consistent record of involvement and efforts to transfer best practices and public administration theory from one country to another. The recipient of the award, a practitioner or an academician, is expected t= o be present at the October 2006 conference in Athens, GA. Columbia Association Annua= l Scholarship Dinner Dance
