PROGRAM: Tour of the New O= ffice of Emergency Management / Emergency Operations Center

DATE: Wednesday March 28 a= t 4:00PM
LOCATION: 165 Cadman Plaza East in Brooklyn (There is no public parking at all. The High Street/Brooklyn Bridge A/C stop lets out literally next= to the building. And the F train York station and the 2/3 Clark = Street station are close by. The Borough Hall hub is also not too far away.)=

The tour is from 4:00-6:00 pm. Due security procedures, everyone will gathe= r at the entrance by 3:45 pm and must have a government picture ID.

This tour is open to ASPA members and their guests, but the number of participants is limited. Reservations will be taken by Jeanne-Marie Col= on a "first come, first served" basis. Reserve your space now.

Community Balanced Scorecard Webinars

ASPA 2007: Monumental Possibilities: Capitalizing on Collaboration

= ;           ASPA will hold its 68^th Annual Conference on March 23 through March 2= 7, 2007 at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC. The theme for the Conference is “Monumental Possibilities: Capitalizing on Collaboration.” The focus will be on collaboration across sectoral and governmental lines and how to use collaboration for the advancement of the common good.

        &= nbsp;   There will be Professional Development Workshops on Succession Planning, Multisector Workforce, Outsourcing, Emerging Workforce, International Development Management, Action Learning and Its Application in Government, and Managing Technology for Non-technologists.

Public Affairs Week at Baruch College

        &= nbsp;   The School of Public Affairs at Baruch College, CUNY is ho= sting their Fourth Annual Public Affairs Week on March 19 - 22, 2007. They are holding a series of plena= ry events to address public policy issues from various points of view.

        &= nbsp;   On Monday, March 19, Susan Fainstein (Departm= ent of Urban Planning and Design, Harvard Design School) and Peter D. Salins (Department of Political Science, SUNY at Stony Brook) will discuss “Keeping New York City Affordable.” Professor John Goering will be the Moderator for this event.

        &= nbsp;   “Closing the Education Achievement Gap” is the topic on Tuesday, March 20.   Herman Badillo (Senior Fello= w, Manhattan Institut= e for Policy Research) and Richard Rothstein (Research Associate, Economic Policy Institute) are the speakers and Professor Dorothy Shipps is the Moderator.<= o:p>

Camarota (Director of Research, Center for Immigration Studies) and Melissa La= zarin (Senior Policy Analyst, National Council= of La Raza) are the speakers for “The Immigration Debate: The Dream Act and Amnesty as Policy Questions” on Wednesday, March 21. Public Service Recognition Week 2007: =

Since 1985, Public Service Recognition Week has been celebrated the first Monday through Sunday in May. The week honors those men and women who serve America as federal, state, and local government employees. S= pecial events are planned to educate citizens about the many ways in which governm= ent serves the people and how government services improve life for everyone.
