Chapter News
The
Chapter ended the 2007/2008 Program Year with a Dinner Meeting at the
Huib Wursten, a Senior Consultant at
ITIM International, gave an interesting
presentation on cultural factors in international communications.
The Chapter is now planning an event
related to the upcoming National Elections.

Rolandi was recently appointed CFO for the New York City Police Athletic
League, Inc. He continues as an adjunct lecturer of public administration at
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, C.U.N.Y.
National ASPA News
The
ASPA National Council held its Annual Business Meeting on September 13th,
2008. The Council received reports from
the five Strategic Imperative Groups (SIGs).
The SIGs are: (1) Be Member Focused, which is working on advertising and
marketing for ASPA, (2) Strengthen Chapters and Sections, which is looking into
ways to support and develop Chapters, (3) Build for the Future, which is
working on recruiting new members and getting them involved in the
organization, (4) Network Through Technology, which is seeking to improve our
information and communication systems, and (5) Reorganize for Change, which is
reviewing ASPA’s governance and management structure to seek possible
improvements. The SIGs are attempting to
improve ASPA as an organization.

The
Second Annual Public Performance Measurement and Reporting Conference will be
held January 23-24, 2009 at The School of Public Affairs and Administration,
Who
Should Attend: Local, state and federal government managers and officials
engaged in performance measurement and reporting; public and nonprofit
professionals; researchers, faculty and students dedicated to measuring,
reporting and improving public sector and nonprofit performance, and
private-sector consultants and employees who contract with federal, state or
local governments for performance measurement and reporting initiatives .
The
Public Performance Measurement and Reporting Network invites proposals for
presentations, papers, panels, workshops, and
case studies from
practitioners, academics, researchers, vendors, and students. Presentations, workshops, and papers should
address practice issues of performance measurement in the public and nonprofit
sectors.
Presentations
and papers are encouraged around the following themes:

measurement in practice – lessons from the field
-Citizen
engagement/focus in the performance
measurement and
reporting process
-Using performance
measurement data for improvement, planning and budgeting

connects groups of citizens, government officials, public and nonprofit
managers, researchers, faculty and students who are dedicated to measuring,
reporting, and improving public sector and not-for-profit performance. The goal
of the Public Performance Measurement and Reporting Network is to promote the use
of valid, reliable data as a key element in improving the delivery
of public services.
The Network provides members with a comprehensive, online database of resources
including articles, reports, performance measures, books, manuals, websites,
training opportunities and more. Membership is free and provides full access to

A blind
review process will result in the selection of at least one (1) winner in each
of the following categories:
Papers
already published or accepted for publication in refereed forums (in journals,
as chapters in books, etc): $2,000
Student
Papers (including work by doctoral students prior to the award of the degree):
$1,000
Papers
should fall under one of the following themes: International and civil
security, Human security, International development, Public administration,
and/or Nonprofit/NGO management and governance. These themes are broadly
interpreted. Generally, any paper that has significant implications for public
policy, public management, or nonprofit sector management will be acceptable.
Application Process

Interested
applicants should submit 1) an application cover sheet (available at www.johnsoninstitute-gspia.org), 2) two-page
executive summary including title of the paper with author name(s) removed, and
3) a copy of the paper with author name(s) removed. Electronic copies are strongly
preferred. All entries must be less than
35 pages double-spaced, including bibliography, and in English. Please indicate whether your paper should be
considered in the published category, work in progress category, or student
category. Winners will be notified in the spring 2009.
