Rutgers University School of Public Affairs and Administration

Marc Holzer, a former NY Metro Chapter President, was named Dean of the new School of Public Affairs and Administration at Rutgers University.  The school will be at the Rutgers Newark Campus.  Rutgers created the new school from the Graduate Department of Public Administration; Dean Holzer had been the Chair of that Department.

The school offers a doctorate in public administration, a master of public administration, and an executive master of public administration.  The school also offers several certificate programs.  The Rutgers news releases quoted Rutgers-Newark Provost Steven J. Diner as stating that the new school “…will expand [Rutgers] contribution to solving one of the central issues facing our society – the efficient use of government resources.”

The public administration programs developed under Dean Holzer’s leadership have won both national and international attention.   Information on the school and its programs may be found at www.newark.rutgers.edu/publicadmin.

Bill Ciaccio Seeking National Council Seat

Longtime Chapter President Bill Ciaccio has been nominated as the District I Candidate for the ASPA National Council.

Mr. Ciaccio is a Senior Director at the MTA/NYC Transit.  He earned an MPA degree at Columbia University in 1979.

Before becoming Chapter President, he was a Chapter Council Member and Chapter Treasurer over a twelve year period.  Mr. Ciaccio was elected Chapter President in 2001 and has served in that position since then.  During his tenure as president, the Chapter has hosted Annual Awards Dinners that have been extremely well-attended.

In his Candidate Statement, Mr. Ciaccio stated that “[t]he major problems facing ASPA are retaining our current members and attracting new members.  If elected these will be the priorities that I will work on.”  He also said that “strong chapters are the backbone of the organization.”

National ASPA was scheduled to mail ballots on November 15, 1006.  Ballots must be returned with a postmark no later than January 8, 2007.  If you did not receive your Ballot in the mail, you should contact the National ASPA office at 202-393-7878 or via e-mail to info@aspanet.org.
